About Lorsch Abbey
Lorsch Abbey is a now-closed Imperial abbey situated in Lorsch, Germany. It is just ten kilometers away from Worms. Though is a ruined state, it is one of the most important pre-Romanesque?Carolingian-style buildings throughout Germany. The abbey was constructed in 764 on the orders of Frankish Count Cancer and his mother Williswinda. It covers an area of 3.11 hectares. The abbey was one of the most popular monasteries at the time of the Carolingian Empire.

- It was one of the cultural centers of Germany due to its library and scriptorium. There are also four 9th century catalogs that still exist. It is estimated that the abbey was rich in Classical and Christian texts.
- The abbey is also a burial ground for many important people like Ludwig der Deutsche, Ludwig der Jüngere Konrad I, and other royal people.
- It suffered a great loss at the Thirty Year's War in the seventeenth century. Spanish troops looted the abbey and most of the buildings were pulled down.
