About Berlin Modernist Housing Estates
Berlin Modernist Housing Estates is a combination of six different subsidized housing estates in Berlin. It covers an area of 88.1 hectares. It belongs mainly to the period of the Weimar Republic. Martin Wagner, Bruno Taut, and Walter Gropius were credited with these projects. It was started in 1919 but ended in 1933 as the Nazi?s style of housing was completely different. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 2008.

- The site is important as it is the best model of the building alteration movement. It helped in the improvement of the lifestyle of the low-income groups.
- The houses were different from the houses existing at the time. They were light-filled apartments with a provision of basic hygienic facilities and were much better than that of the German Empire with dark backyards and cramped flats.
- Each door of the building has a different color and design. Also, the galleries of the apartment are painted sky blue and it looks like the person can see the sky through them.
- The designers were aware of the fact that they have to make the cheapest apartment that's why they use the colors for styling in place of sculpture which is much more expansive than that of colors.
- The view of the sunset at the apartment is also wonderful when the window and balcony frames got lilac with the reflection of the sun. It also showed how modern was the approach of the architect of that time that the building is still standing after the second World War and also earned the status of World Heritage sites.
