About Bagrati Cathedral and Gelati Monastery
Bagrati Cathedral is an old cathedral in Kutaisi city of Georgia. The church was constructed in the 11th century in the reign of King Bagrat III. The church represents medieval times Georgian architecture. It was designated as UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. It was in deteriorating condition until its reconstruction which was started in the 1950s and was completed in 2012. But the cathedral has lost the status of being a World Heritage Site due to this reconstruction work and was removed from the list in 2017.

- Currently, the church is used for very minimum religious works but serves as a tourist attraction and a pilgrimage. It is also a symbol of the city of Kutaisi. Or we can say that the city is identified due to this church.
- The cathedral is visible from every part of the city as it is located on a hill.

- The church still contains murals and mosaics of the 11th century. The site is worth visiting though it is removed from the list of Heritage Sites.

- It faced a destroying attack of Ottoman troops in 1692 in which the ceiling and cupola of the church were collapsed.
