About Arg e Bam

Arg-e Bam is an old fortress located in the city of Bam in Iran. It is estimated that the Citadel was built by Achaemenians in around 579?323 BC. It was included in the list of World Heritage Site in 2004 and remains in the list as an endangered site until 2013 when it was excluded from the list. It has its golden time during the seventh to eleventh centuries as it served as an important stoppage along the Silk Road.

Some Lesser Known Facts About Arg e Bam

It was the largest adobe building on the planet until 2003 when a major earthquake destroyed the site.
It was entirely demolished in an earthquake in late 2003. It was rebuilt by the government of Iran up to 2016.
It was used for filming the movie "The Desert of the Tartars."
It is representative of the interaction between man and nature. It retains the ancient canalizations and evidence of evolution. It is located in an oasis area and underground water canals and other technology used in the area give us a hint about how the men have changed according to the conditions.
In addition to Arg-e-Bam, some other nearby structures like Qal'eh Dokhtar, Emamzadeh Zeyd Mausoleum, and Emamzadeh Asiri Mausoleum are also included in the site.
It was an important location on the Silk Road or spice route, The city was also known for breeding silkworms.
