About Ancient Villages of Northern Syria
Ancient Villages of Northern Syria is a group of settlements situated between Aleppo and Idlib in northwest Syria. It covers an area of 12290 hectares having monuments that dated back from the 1st to 7th centuries. It was included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 2011 while became a World Heritage site in Danger since 2013. There are three groups of highlands in the area which include Mount Simeon and Mount Kurd; the second is the Harim Mountains while the third being Zawiya Mountain.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Ancient Villages of Northern Syria
- The site contains ruins of the old settlements which were used for living from the first to seventh centuries but were abandoned between the 8th and 10th centuries. There are churches, pagan temples, bathhouses, Church of Saint Simeon Stylites, and more.

- You can study the changes from the ancient pagan world of the Roman Empire to Byzantine Christianity in these ancient villages.
- The site contains the Ain Dara temple which was made between the tenth to eighth centuries BC. It also has a Roman amphitheater and two old Roman bridges.
