About NohKaLikai Falls
With a drop of 340 m, NohKaLikai Falls is considered to be the tallest plunge waterfall in the country. The falls are near Cherrapunji, which is noted among the wettest places on Earth. Surrounded by the luscious aura of East Khasi Hills, it has an average flow rate of 2.8 m3/s. The total width of the waterfall is 23 m. The falls are nurtured by the rainwater collected on the top of a relatively small plateau, Cherrapunji.

- There is a plunge pool shaped down the fall that has remarkable greenish-blue colored water.

- There is a legend surrounding the fall that is known as the legend of Nohkal. It is the story of a woman named Likai. The story goes as ka-Likai became a mother to a daughter but lost her husband soon after. She had to remarry in order to take care of her child, but as she used to be too busy with her daughter, her second husband had manifested jealousy towards her daughter. Once when Likai was gone for some work, the husband killed the infant and cooked her flesh. When the woman returned home, she did not find anyone but saw the prepared meal. Without any thought, she ate the food as she had not had anything in the day and was very tired. As she went out, she found a severed finger near betel leaves. She soon came to the realization about what had happened in her absence and why nobody was at home. As could no longer stand the deliberation of cannibalizing her daughter unwittingly, she jumped off the falls and died. The fall was named after her for the grim reminder of the misfortune of the woman.
