About Chitrakote Falls
Chitrakote Falls is formed through a 29 meters drop of the Indravati River at Chitrakoote. It is situated roughly 38 kilometers to the west of Jagdalpur city. Based in the Bastar district of Chhattisgarh, India, it is a cataract type fall that has 3 drops. The cascade is noted to be the widest fall in the country. It gets to a width of approximately 300 meters as the rainy season approaches. The cascading water hits into a pond formed in a semicircular shape at the bottom of the falls.

- Due to its width and its broad magnificent horseshoe form, it is often acknowledged as the ?Small Niagara Falls.?
- Throughout the rainy season, due to sun rays reflecting on mist from the falls, rainbows are formed.
- The left bank of the falls consists of a small Hindu sanctuary devoted to the god Shiva. Several naturally created grottoes are also found at the site that is acknowledged as Parvati caves (Named after god Shiva?s wife).
- The falls is listed among the six waterfalls in the country that are categorized as "geomorphosites."
- Below the falls, various water adventures are offered including local boat facilities, paddle boating, and more. Many local people are associated with fishing in the area.
- The left bank has a rock ledge and down the cliff a naturally created niche that accommodates stone slabs engraved with deities.
- The government has done many things to improve the infrastructure, as there is a government-run hotel at the top of the falls. A set of stairs have been built that goes from the garden of the hotel to the falls.
- A modern essential set of cabins have also been constructed at the site.
- Currently, the best time to visit the falls are during the monsoon as it dries up from April to June. The lack of water issues has aroused as the water direction of the Indravati River has been changed via Jaura Nallah by the Odisha government.
