The Dresden Elbe Valley is a landscape located in Dresden city of Saxony, Germany. The landscape is located alongside the Elbe river and is extended to about 20 kilometers passing through the Dresden Basin. It is one of the two important cultural landscapes on the river Elbe, the other being Dessau-Worlitz Garden. The site includes Dresden urban area and natural river banks and slopes alongside the landscape of Elbe valley.

Some Lesser Known Facts About Dresden Elbe Valley

  • The site was listed in the World Heritage Site list in the year 2004. The construction of the Waldschlosschen Bridge on the river put its World Heritage site designation in danger in July 2006 and was finally removed from the list in June 2009.
  • Viticulture is also popular in the area as its average annual temperature lies between 9.3 to 10 degrees Celsius.
  • There is less building development in this area due to regular floods.
  • The area is home to several monuments and parks like Pillnitz Palace, New Town of Dresden, Village of Loschwitz, Historic Center of Dresden which could also be visited during a trip to Dresden Elbe Valley. However, some of the architectural attractions of the area changed into ruins during the bombing at the time of the Second World War.
