Located at Clifford Street, York, England, York Dungeon is a thrilling traveling spot for tourists from around the world. It is keen to showcase the darkest history of the city. The site offers the depiction of history via actor-led shows, fully immersive sets, and special effects. It was severely hit by the flood in the year 2012 and the following year saw the reopening of the dungeon. Tickets to the shows organized by them can be booked online via their official website. How To Reach The York Dungeon
The tourist attraction is situated at a distance of 2-min walk from Jorvik Viking Centre and is easily reachable.
Bus
The bus stop is at the front so the attraction can be easily accessed via bus. The bus lines that will take you there are 22, 3, 37, 4, 412, ZAP.
Boat
Just near the dungeon, a riverboat service is also available at King's Staith Landings.
Train
After reaching the York railway station, the dungeon can be found at a 15-20 minute walk. Following the station road, the visitor will have to turn towards Micklegate Bridge St. Further take a right to Clifford St. and can see a sign to The York Dungeon clearly.
Some Lesser Known Facts About The York Dungeon
- The tourist attraction was noted to be the second Dungeon attraction formed in the UK, after London Dungeon (1975).

- The site was set up to offering live-action horror exhibits to its visitors same as London Dungeon. The shows were loosely based on true events throughout history.

- In the beginning, it served more as a museum but with time the attraction advanced to become an actor-led experience showcasing historical events.
- It consisted of various sections that are 'Plague doctor's surgery, 'Dick Turpin', 'Torture Chamber' and 'the Courtroom'. The Dungeon also involved 'Gorvik' (the name is a pun on the king?s name for York, 'Jorvik'), which specified the history of the city detailing Vikings and their brutal attacks. Also further adding Witch Trials that sketched the witch trials in York in 2003.

- It has become exposed to floods a number of times as it is situated near the River Ouse. It was hit by a flood in 2001, 2004, and twice in 2012. The 2012 floods destroyed many exhibits and further, the dungeon was renovated and rebranded in 2013.

- The dungeon has fallen into the pit of many controversies including one in 2004, for a show organized by them titled "Satan's Grotto" during Christmas. The Christian community in York raised concerns and requested the dungeon to cease the exhibit of the show.
