About Gedung Kesenian Jakarta
Gedung Kesenian Jakarta is a concert hall located in Central Jakarta of Indonesia. It was constructed in 1821 in Indische Empire style and Neoclassical architecture style. J.C. Schultze was the architect credited for designing it. It has two open halls which are used as the main concert room having a balcony to sit about 475 people. It also has a stage and loge. The building is open for a public visit throughout the week between 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

- Do you know that the hall was to be inaugurated in October 1821 but at the time Jakarta was dealing with a cholera epidemic that's why the inauguration date was postponed to December 7?
- It was used as a military headquarters by the Japanese when Indonesia was under Japanese occupation from 1942 to 1945.
- At the time, the building was made it used to illuminate with candles and kerosene lamps. In 1864, the lighting was changed to Gaslight, however, electricity was installed.
- The first meeting of the Central Indonesian National Committee was held in this building after a short time of Indonesia's declaration of independence.
- The place is still a tourist attraction due to several events organized here.
