About Shri Jagannath Temple
Shri Jagannath Temple is a popular temple situated in Hyderabad city of India. It is made by the Odiya community and is a replica of Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri. The temple was constructed in 2009. It opens every morning at six and closes at 12 noon. In the evening, it opens at 5:00 pm and closed at 9:00 pm. The temple covers an area of 3000 square yards. It lies in the center of the city and is easily accessible by road. It is very close to KBR National Park and is beside Telangana Bhavan. There are no charges to enter the temple premises.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Shri Jagannath Temple
- The highest point of the temple which is called "Shikhara" is about 70 feet high. The red sandstone which was brought from Orissa was used to make this temple. That's why the temple is red in color. About 600 tons of sandstone were used and it employed about 60 stone carvers to construct this temple.
- The temple is popular for its annual Rathyatra which is attended by thousands of devotees just like the yatra organized at the Jagannath Temple in Puri.
- While visiting this place it seems like we are visiting the famous Jagannath temple of Puri, as it was made in the same style, though it is different in size as compared to the original temple.
- The idols of the main deities which are Lord Jagannath (Krishna), his brother Balabhadra, and sister Devi Subhadra was made with the wood brought from Orissa to give the same divine touch to the lord.
- Besides main deities, you can also take blessings of other lords like Ganesh, Hanuman, Shiva, Goddess Lakshmi, Navagrahas, and nine incarnations of the Lord Vishnu while visiting the temple.
- The temple also has carvings of men and women similar to the Khajuraho Temples.
- People also buy devotional CDs, books, and other worship material from the temple. The temple has a huge parking place.
