The American Airlines Arena or AAA is an entertainment and sports arena. The Arena is home to the Miami Heat of the National Basketball Association. It attracts visitors local and outsiders, equally, owing to its noted guests and performers and the overall thrilling experience of these events.
Some Lesser Known Facts About American Airlines Arena
- The AAA was officially opened on December 31, 1999. Its construction is said to have cost a whopping $213 million! At its inauguration, a concert was performed by Gloria Estefan. And on January 2, 2000, the Miami Heat played its first game in the new arena.
- Its construction began in 1998 as a replacement for the Miami Arena and was designed by the architecture firms Arquitectonica and 360 Architecture. It is spread over an area of 1,400,00-sq. ft.
- The stadium can hold over 19,600 spectators for a basketball match. For the center stage location, it can hold more than 20,000 audiences for a 360° show.
- Many notable artists have performed here and the list goes on and on. Some of these are Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Miley Cyrus, One Direction, Chris Brown and Kate Perry, Mariah Carey, Shakira, The weekend, Kanye West, Adele, Selena Gomez, etc.
- The Argentine rock band "Soda Stereo" performed sold-out concerts in the arena. Also, Celine Dion performed here during her "Taking Chances Tour" in 2009 which was witnessed by the recorded number of spectators as the largest crowd in the history of the arena.
- The first-ever UFC event in the state of Florida was also hosted at the AAA.
