About Freedom Tower
The Freedom Tower is an incredible example of fine architecture. It currently functions as a contemporary art museum and central office, associated with Miami Dade College. Some Lesser Known Facts About Freedom Tower
- The tower has 17 stories and covers an area of 82,000 sq. ft. It was built in the year 1925. It was designed by Schultze and Weaver, which was inspired by the design of the Giralda tower of the Cathedral of Seville.

- In the 1960s that Cuban refugees fleeing the communist regime in Cuba would make use of the building. It was when the Cuban leader Fidel Castro, took the power of the island in 1959, with a communist government, the people began to migrate to the shores of Miami.

- By 1972, the federal government stopped using the Freedom Tower as a migration facility and sold it to private buyers. Today, it is a National Historic Landmark and functions as the MDC Museum of Art and Design.

- The Permanent Art Collection at the Museum contains over 1900 works in all mediums and genres. This includes painting, sculpture, works on paper, photography, video, and sculpture. It got pieces from popular movements of Minimalism, Pop Art of the 60s & 70s, Conceptual Art, and Contemporary Latin American Artists.

- Nearby attractions include Bayside Marketplace, an open-air waterfront mall filled with restaurants, which lies just across the street. To the north of The Freedom Tower, lies the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts and Maurice A. Ferré Park.
