The Gulf of California is a sea between the Baja California Peninsula and the Mexican mainland. The sea is surrounded by Sur, Baja California, Sinaloa, and Sonora. It is spread in an area of 160k kilometers square. The maximum depth of the sea is over 3000 meters. It has 244 islands, islets, and coastal areas. It has a maximum width of 48 to 241 kilometers. It was designated as UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005 and was placed in the list of Heritage Site in Danger in 2019.
