About Selous Game Reserve
Selous Game Reserve is a national park located in southern Tanzania. It is spread in an area of fifty thousand kilometer square. The reserve was established in the year 1922. It was named on a famous big game hunter and conservationist Frederick Selous. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 1982 and was placed on the list of endangered sites in the year 2014. The entry and exit of humans in the reserve are under the control of the Wildlife Division of the Tanzanian Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism.

- The park is home to different wildlife species like Nile crocodile, Cape buffaloes, East African wild dog, African bush elephant, and more.

- Permanent human settlement is not allowed in the park and permission is required to be taken from the Wildlife Division of the Tanzanian Ministry to enter the reserve.
- The area is also rich in uranium deposits whose digging is allowed by UNESCO but was criticized by other organizations like Rainforest Rescue and Uranium-Network.
- The park is an adventurous tourist place. The tourists are allowed guided tours to have a look at the wildlife. In addition to animals, it is also rich in natural beauty. It will become a most unforgettable moment when you watch Stiegler Gorge in which the Rufiji river flows into the Indian Ocean. The canyon is about 100 meters deep and 100 meters wide. There are also high-end lodges and camps alongside river and lake systems. The tourist can also enjoy boating and walking safaris here.

- The government of Tanzania has approved a dam on the Rufiji River which would be completed by 2022 and will flood about 1000 kilometers square of the reserve area which will ultimately affect the people and biodiversity of the reserve.

- It is sad to say that there is a huge drop in the population of elephants in the reserve due to corrupt politicians, businessmen, and officials who support poachers. In 1976, there were approximately 109, 000 elephant while there were only 13,000 elephants remained up to 2013.
