About Salonga National Park
Salonga National Park is a reserved area located in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The place is a basin for Congo River and covers the province like Kasai, Equateur, Mai Ndombe and Sankuru. It is spread in an area of approximately 36000 kilometer square. The park was founded in the year 1970. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984 and was included in endangered sites since 1999 due to civil war in the eastern part of the country.

  • It is the biggest tropical rainforest reserve throughout Africa.
  • The park is a home to a wide range of animal species including bonobos, Thollon's red colobus, leopard, chevrotain, forest buffalo and many more. Birds including cattle egret, yellow-billed stork and black stork are found in the park.
