About Niokolo Koba National Park
Niokolo-Koba National Park is a national park located in Southeast Senegal. It is close to the Guinea-Bissau border. It was founded in the year 1925. The site covers an area of 9,130-kilometer square. It gained the status of World Heritage Site in 1981. While it was declared as the World Heritage Site in danger in the year 2007. It remains open throughout the year. There are no entry fees to enter the park but it's better to hire a guide who has complete knowledge of the park.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Niokolo Koba National Park
- The park is home to many wildlife animals like lions, water buffaloes, and the rare Giant Eland. It is also known for the northernmost inhabitants of chimpanzees across the world.

- It also has one game reserve which is among few reserves of West Africa.

- The park also offers a stay facility at a lodge named "Lion Camp" which is located next to the bend of Gambia River. Though the lodge offers only basic facilities with simple accommodation it will be exciting to stay at the lodge with eyes opening in a green forest area close to Gambia River. It will definitely be a good start to the day when you woke up with birds chirping in the lap of nature.

- According to the estimates, about 60 species of fish, 20 species of amphibians, 80 species of mammals, and 38 reptile species live in the reserve. A small number of African leopards and West African wild dogs also live here. Also, about 330 species of birds live in the park. You can easily see wildlife like colobus monkeys, crocodiles, baboons, and warthogs in the park.
