About Keukenhof

Keukenhof is a garden situated in Lisse town of the Netherlands. The garden is spread in an area of about 79 acres. It receives over 1.5 million visitors in a year which is much more than Rijksmuseum and Efteling. About seven million flower bulbs are planted in a year in this garden. It is owned by Stichting Graaf Carel van Lynden. The garden is open only for eight weeks a year in December when the Tulips start blooming.

An important fact, you must know that it is the largest flower garden in the world.
They grew the flowers in different themes each year. So it would be a new experience every time you visit this garden. They can tell the history and relation of Dutch culture with tulips. It was also shown in themes that how the cost of one tulip bud was more than a full house at a time.
About 40 gardeners are employed full time throughout the year to maintain this garden.
It is not an easy job to make this magnificent look of the garden. The gardeners start planting 7 million bulbs in early October which are supplied by more than 100 growers. They plant three bulbs in each location to ensure continuous bloom. It is clear that the shallowest bulb blooms early while the subsequent bulb bloom after the first bulb got finished.
Keukenhof is home to six other gardens in addition to tulips which include a Japanese garden, a spring meadow, a historic garden, an English landscape garden, and a garden maze.
The garden hosts about 30 flowers and plant shows each year in its three main pavilions. The world's largest lily show is organized here for ten years.
Though it now gains popularity with its beautiful flowers in older times it was used to collect herbs and hunting to prepare food in the castle. It is also named Keukenhof which means Kitchen Garden.
