About Jijamata Udyaan
Jijamata Udyaan is also popular travel destination located at the heart of Mumbai. It is a horticulture park and zoo covering an area of fifty acres. It is also known as Byculla Zoo and Victoria Gardens. The park owns over 800 species of flora including Sundari, Castanospermum australe, and Coccoloba uvifera. The park welcomes from 8000 to 30000 visitors on holidays. The park remains open from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm every day except Wednesday. A ticket price of INR 20 per person is charged for an adult, while it is INR 10 for a minor. Senior citizens and physically challenged are free to enter the park, while the authority charges INR 300 for foreign tourists. Ticket for Penguin park is 100 per person.
How To Reach Jijamata Udyaan
The park is located at Byculla East of Mumbai and can be easily reached using any of the available means of transport:
Train
Take a train going to Byculla or nearby stations like Chichpokli, Mazgaon Cabin, Reay Road, Mahalaxmi or Ghotkopar Metro Station from there you can take a cab or any comfortable means of transport to reach the park easily.
Bus
Bus is also preferred by lots of Mumbaikar to reach the zoo. You can take a bus for Byculla East, Jijamata Udyan Bus Stop, Anjeerwadi bus stop or for Byculla Station which will drop you close to location. From there, you can walk or take any local means of transport to reach the location.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Jijamata Udyaan
- The park is divided into different sections like Crocodile Lake, Bird Aviary, Monkey Cages, Hippopotamus Enclosure, and Penguin park which provide you the opportunity to choose which one you want to see first and keep the other section for another trip if you are in hurry.

- As park is spread in a large area about 50 acres, it is advised to keep some eatables and water bottles so as to avoid exertion and to enjoy the trip. The park also has huge shady trees which provides you cool shade where you can sit if you feel tired after travelling.
- The park is a home to a variety of animals where you can see tigers, lions, hyenas, crocodiles, hippopotamuses and bears and educate your child about these animals.

- Besides these animals, park also owns over 3000 trees, herbs and flowering plants from over 800 species which provides it a status of botanical garden. You can also study about plants at this park with a close look to the plants like Flame of the Forest, Cannon Ball, Beggar’s Bowl and Tree of Heaven.
- There is also a museum named Dr.Bhau Daji Lad Museum inside the campus which showcases some interesting historical photos of the city, artifacts, archaeological statues including original rock-cut elephant from Elephanta Caves.

- The penguin park section is gaining a wide range of tourist attraction in the park.
