About Ichkeul National Park
Ichkeul National Park is the area around Lake Ichkeul located in Tunisia. The lake area and wet land are preferred by numerous migrating birds that were traveling through the hot heat of Africa. The place is 25 kilometers away from Bizerte and 15 kilometers north of Mateur. It is spread in an area of 126 kilometers square. It was designated as the World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1980. It remained in the list of Danger Sites from 1996-2006 after which it was removed from the list.

Some time over 300 thousand ducks, geese, and coots arrive at the place at the same time. The endangered species like the white-headed duck, the marbled duck, and the ferruginous duck also seen here.

Due to the reduction of the fresh-water inflow, the number of plant species that grew in freshwater minimized and salt-loving plants increased. This ultimately reduced the migratory bird populations. Though the Tunisian government has taken some steps to reduce salinity UNESCO has delisted the site from World Heritage Site.
