About Delhi Zoo

The National Zoological Park better known as Delhi Zoo is a zoological park located in the capital of India. It spread in an area of 176-acre in New Delhi. The zoo was opened for the general public in the year 1959.

Some Lesser Known Facts About Delhi Zoo

To conserve the environment and provide a feel like their natural habitat to the animals, visitors are strictly prohibited to use private vehicles in the zoo. They can visit the place on foot or can hire a battery-operated vehicle available at the zoo.
The visitors are not allowed to bring food except drinking water to maintain safety as the animals can attack them for food. But if you want some refreshment, you can eat at the canteen in the zoo.
There was a heart shaking event at the zoo when a mentally ill visitor fell in the white tiger's enclosure in the year 2014. He was killed by the tigers. ( So be careful whenever you visit the zoo!)
Do you know the fact that Major Aubrey Weinman of the Ceylon Zoological Garden was initially hired to help to draw zoo plans but as he was busy in some other projects so later on Carl Hagenbeck of the Zoological Garden of Hamburg was appointed to carry on the projects.
Besides being a home to variety of species it also has over 200 types of trees.
