About Comoe National Park
Comoé National Park is a protected area located in the Zanzan and Savanes Districts of the north-eastern Ivory Coast. It is spread in an area of the 11500-kilometer square. The park was established in 1983 and was designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the same year. It became a World Heritage Site in Danger in 2003 due to a threat to its biosphere with poaching and overgrazing of the cattle.

- It is the largest national park in West Africa and is one of the 15 largest National Parks throughout the World.
- It has a different ecosystem that ranges from humid Guinea savanna to the dry Sudanian zone due to which different types of animal and plant species are found here which includes gallery forest, rock outcrops, and many more.

- It is sad to say that 3 species of animals like wild dog, cheetah, and lion become extinct from the park.
- It is the home of about 135 species of animals including 11 species of primates, 21 species of artiodactyls. Some of the mammal species are endangered like Chimpanzee, ursine colobus, giant pangolin, and African gold cat.

- Bird watching is also suitable in parks having more than 500 species of birds like brown-cheeked hornbill, yellow-casqued hornbill, hammerkop, and Denham's bustard.

- The river in the park and its tributaries flow from the park which is home to 35 different types of amphibians, 60 types of fish, and also 71 types of reptile including Nile crocodile, slender-snouted crocodile among others.
- There are also numerous types of plants like Antiaris Africana, Isoberlinia Doka, and also threatened plants like Chlorophora excelsa, etc.

- The wildlife and ecosystem of the park are threatened by poaching, overgrazing by cattle, and absence of management. Also, the outbreak of the Ivorian Civil War completely disturbed the ecosystem. As a result, it was removed from the list of World Heritage Site in 2017. The park is a beautiful gift of nature, we must conserve it and take care that no other animal becomes extinct from the planet.
