About Bandipur National Park
Bandipur National Park is a protected area in Karnataka, India. It was established as a tiger reserve site in 1974 under the tiger conservation programme called Project Tiger. The park located in the state which is the second state with the highest population of tiger throughout the country. The park encompasses the land of 874 sq kilometers and governed by the state forest department and the ministry of forests and environment.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Bandipur National Park
- During the British rule, the site was the private hunting ground of the kings of Mysore.
- The park is the largest protected area throughout southern India and also the biggest home to wild elephants across south Asia.
- The park is associated with the main route of the foremost tourist destination Ooty which resulted in several wildlife fatalities every year by speeding vehicles. Government bans the traffic on the route at the night from 9 PM to 6 AM to reduce the wildlife loss.

- The park has a rich and healthy population of vulnerable species such as Indian elephants, tigers, broad-snouted crocodiles, sloth bears, jackals, and more.

- The site is also noted as the most beautiful and well managed national park across the country.
