The site includes a group of palace complexes and extended landscape gardens in the area surrounding Potsdam and Berlin. The area covered by the site is about 2064 hectares. It includes 150 constructions that were made from 1730 to 1916. It was included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990 under the cultural category. The site was designed against the background of monarchic ideas of the Prussian state which makes it more important.

- In 1990, the site contains only a few places for World Heritage designation.
