The museum was constructed in remembrance of a great artist who was also an illustrator, cartoonist, and best film director of his time. The museum is also devoted to the Archaeological products and collection which are displayed in the gallery of the museum. The museum was constructed in the year 1887 on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of Queen Victoria. The museum was begun by the collector of Krishan district. The place was turned into an archaeological museum by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and under the supervision of the Department of Archaeology and Museums in the year 1962.

The museum is located at the prime road of the city Vijayawada which is the MG road that connects all the routes along and due to which museum is easily accessible by all the means of transport. By Train
