About Krakow Saltworks Museum

Krakow Saltworks Museum is located in the Zupny Castle. It is a Gothic castle located in Wieliczka Poland. It served as the headquarters for the Wieliczka Salt Mine. It was also included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site alongside Wieliczka and Bocchino. It was constructed in the fourteenth century by Casimir III the Great. The castle could be visited from Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and 1:30 to 5:00 pm. It remains closed on Monday.

The site is now converted into a museum that tells about the history of Wieliczka.
The museum houses a collection of saltshakers which is only found at this place all over Poland.
The great hall of the castle is made in a Gothic style having a rib vault supported by one pillar. You can see an old shaft of the 13th century placed in the courtyard. The other attractions are the tower and curtain walls which were made in the 14th century.
The castle also had a mass caterer who used to provide free meals to the miners and merchants buying salt from the mining administration.
Overall it is the best outing place situated on a hilltop and providing knowledge about the past of the place.
