About Jakarta History Museum
Jakarta History Museum is a historical building situated in Jakarta, Indonesia. It was constructed in the year 1710. The visitors can see objects from prehistory period, Dutch colonization period and various objects from 16th century to the Indonesia?s Independence. It is very close to Wayang Museum and Fine Art and Ceramic Museum. The museum remains open for the public from Tuesday to Sunday from nine in the morning to three in the daytime. It has about 23500 objects in display. The museum was closed in July 2011 and was opened again in 2012 after renovation.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Jakarta History Museum
- There is also an underground prison. It was used to keep the guilty at the time of Dutch colonial rule. It is somewhat dark and scary. Also, locals believe that the prison is haunted.

- The museum is still the center of tourist attractions where the visitors can know about the history of Jakarta. It also features a famous weapon named Meruam si Jagur which is about 3.85 meters long and weighs approximately 3.5 tonnes. The weapon is said to have come from Portugal.
