The Centre Pompidou is a popular and very recognizable building situated in the 4th arrondissement of Paris. It is also known as the "Beaubourg" because of its location in the Beaubourg area. It is a cultural landmark that has its structure and mechanical services visible on the exterior of the building. It is a much visited tourist spot and particularly for its quirky design.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Centre Pompidou
- It was inaugurated on January 31, 1977, by the French president Valery Giscard d'Estaing. The design was a result of a collaboration between architects Renzo Piano of Italy and Richard Rogers of Britain.

- It is named after Georges Pompidou, who served as the president of France. Under his management, the museum was custom-built for the purpose of constructing a cultural center focused on and championing only all modern art. It is also referred to as Georges Pompidou National Art and Cultural Centre.

- An amazing fact about the place is all of the purposeful external elements of the building are color-coded. Green color pipes are used for plumbing whereas blue and yellow are for climate control and electrical purpose respectively. The red ones are circulation elements and health and safety.

- It is also famous for its public library which is fully stocked with almost 500,000 books as well as other media. It can easily accommodate 2,000 readers.

- The Centre Pompidou contains over 50 thousand works of art, which includes painting, sculpture, photography, and more. The most popular exhibition to date has been the 2013 "Dali" exhibition which broke the museum's daily attendance record with 7,364 people attending per day!

- The site has been featured in a James Bond film, Moonraker, as Holly Goodhead's office at Drax's space-shuttle plant which was actually a fifth floor room of the Pompidou Centre.
