The Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum is a museum located in Poland. It is situated at the place of the Auschwitz concentration camp in Oświęcim town. It was founded in April of 1946. The site covers an area of 191 hectares. It was designated as the World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the year 1979. Piotr Cywiński is currently serving as the director of the museum. The site is visited by over two million people every year.
