Archeological Museum and Portrait Gallery were established in the year 1964. The museum is dedicated to portraying the past life scenario about the lifestyle of the Portuguese of Goa. It also includes the art gallery and which catches the eye of all the visitors. The archaeological museum is considered as one of the most liked places in Goa and travelers are often seen visiting the place in huge numbers from around the world. The museum is operational to the public for six days of the week and the opening hour of the museum is 09:00 AM - 05:00 PM from Saturday to Thursday and is closed every Friday and the tickets charges for Indians are 10 rupees and charges for the Foreigner visitor is also Rupees 10.

The museum is located at the EDC Complex in Panaji Goa which is the main road, and one can easily reach the museum with the help of any source of transportation.

By Bus
The closest bus stands located near the museum is Old Goa Police station bus stand and Old Goa Bypass bus stop and these two are distant at not more than 3 km from the museum and one can reach the destination in 3-5 minutes by renting a cab/taxi or any public transport service.
By Train
The only rail station closest to the museum is the Karmali station which is situated at a distance of 2.5 km and will take only 5 minutes to route the distance from the station to the museum by hiring a taxi/cab or any public transport service.
By Air
If one is arriving by flight then he/she can land at the nearest airport which is the Goa International Airport which is located at a distance of 28km away and this distance be covered in 45-50 minutes by opting for a cab/ taxi or any public transport vehicle.
By Ferry
The ferry terminals near the museums are also sources of transportation for many travelers and some people also opt for the ferry as a source of transportation to reach the museum and the nearest ferry terminals are Piedade Ferry Terminal, Old Goa Ferry Terminal, Dhauji Ferry Terminal, and Tolto Ferry Terminal and all these terminals are distant at 950m - 4km away and can be routed within 10-25 minute with the help of taxi/cab or any public transport service.
