About Khami Ruins
It was an ancient and important city of the Kingdom of Butua during the late Iron Age periods in Africa. Presently it is ruined and designated as the world heritage site and also the national monument in Zimbabwe. The site covers an area of around 108 hectares. Now there are dry-stone walled structures of the ancient city. It is open to the public from 8 AM to 5 PM every day.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Khami Ruins
- It was the capital city of the Torwa dynasty of the Butua kingdom in ancient times of the late Iron Age. It remained discarded since the 16th century.
- The stone walls of the old city are put under the conservation and recording program in 2000 by the national government.

- Some discoveries at the place suggested that it was the major center of business for a long period of time.
- The nearest city to the site is Bulawayo which is located within a distance of 22 kilometers from the ruins.
- It is the second stone-built biggest monument across the country.
