About Chichen Itza
It is an archaeological site in Mexico built by the Maya people.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Chichen Itza
- The first thing that comes to mind is why it is called Chichen Itza. It means "the mouth at the well of Itza." According to Mayas Itz means 'magic' while á for "water" so Itza means water magicians.
- It is designated as the World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988 and is one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
- The main pyramid is El Castillo which is not allowed to climb as the archaeologists and local conservationists wanted to secure it. If you wonder about the height of Chichen Itza it is 30 meters tall including the temple as the temple itself is six-meter tall.
- According to estimates, it was a powerful economic city of about 600 AD.
- Before planning to visit the place, you must know that in the Spring (March 20) abd Autumn Equinox (September 22), there founded a shadow across the Kukulkan Pyramid that looks like a serpent slithering down the staircase. (so plan accordingly!)

- The visitors are also amazed by the unusual eco sounds at the place. For an instance, if a person claps at one end of the Ball Court, the other person standing in the middle of the court can hear nine echoes. While a clap in front of the Kukulkan Pyramid produces a serpent's chirp.
