About St Augustines Abbey
St Augustine's Abbey was a monastery situated in Kent, England. The abbey was constructed in 598 and remained in use until 1538. Its ruins are now preserved as the historical value. It spread in an area of 8.42 hectares. It was a Benedictine monastery and is a part of Canterbury Cathedral. It owned an extensive library having both religious and secular books also including scriptorium which was used for producing manuscripts. Only 200 books are existing today.
