About Sukhna Lake
It is a rainfed lake made with a seasonal stream from the Shivalik Hills. It covers an area of three kilometer square and has an average depth of eight feet with a maximum of sixteen places at certain places. Lake was founded by Le Corbusier and the Chief Engineer P L Verma. It was also named as Chakraborty Lake for a period of Chakraborty Lake to honor Governor of Haryana Birendra Narayan Chakraborty. No money is charged to access the location but you have to pay money if you are interested in boating according to the number of person and time spent on boat. The lake can be visited anytime between 5:00 am to 9:00 pm but the boating timing is between 9:30 am to 6:00 pm.

Bus
If you are going there by bus, then leave your bus at a nearby bus stand. Some of the bus stands close to the location are Rock Garden bus stand, C.T.U bus stand, Naya Gaon, and Kansal bus stand. After reaching there, you can take an auto rickshaw or walk to reach the location.
Taxi
Taxi is the most convenient option to reach Sukhna Lake which will drop you at the entrace gate, taking you from your location.

Some Lesser Known Facts About Sukhna Lake
- The most important fact about the lake that it is not natural and the man who is credited for constructing the first planned city of the country also has the credit of creating this beautiful place.
- The lake suffered a problem of silt deposits as the Sukhna Choe flows directly through the lake. But in 1974, it was redirected so as to minimize the entry of silt. Also, various volunteers including old and young works to desilt the lake bed.
- It suffered a danger of decline of water level. Popular comedian late Jaspal Bhatti grab attention of the public over the matter by landing at the dry bed with his Nonsense Club members to play cricket.
- The area behind the lake is preserved with the name of Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary since 1998. It is a home of golden jackals, mongoose, civets, wild cats and many other animals.
