- It is the 4th largest island in the chain of islands in the Bahamas, which includes about 700 islands and over 2000 cays. It is spread over an area of 530 sq. miles.

- There are various activities to explore. It is ideal for everything from kayaking, dolphin watching, and Eco-adventures to jeep safari. One can enjoy scuba diving and bike tours.

- The Lucayan National Park is home to an underwater cave system across the globe. It runs six miles of chartered caverns, caves, and tunnels. The national park represents an important part of Bahamian history. Skulls and artifacts belonging to the Lucayan tribes were found in these very caves.

- In the times when slavery was active, slaves were permitted three days off; January 1st, December 25th and December 26th. The Junkanoo Festival takes place on December 26th and January 1st, while the 25th of December is dedicated to exchanging gifts and visiting friends.

- The nightlife in the Grand Bahamas is celebrated and much adored. Once could spend the night bar-hopping from Cocktails on the Bay, Rum Runners, The Corner Bar and Fair Play or visit the clubs and experience Wednesday night Fish Fry in Smith's Point.
