Bimini island is dubbed as the fishing capital of the Bahamas. It comprises of many yacht harbors and tourist beaches and towns like Alice Town, Bailey Town, and Paradise Point. It offers a more local atmosphere than some of the larger, commercial islands of the Bahamas.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Bimini Island
- It is said that Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote parts of his Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech here, and it was also the favorite getaway for Ernest Hemingway and allegedly used it as the inspiration for his classics "The Old Man & the Sea" and "Islands in the Stream".

- Bimini island has its myths as well. It is a great rumor that the Foundation of Youth, which was searched for by Juan Ponce de León, exists within the shallow pools of South Bimini. The Lost City of Atlantis is considered to be in the deep waters off of Bimini where divers can sight the Bimini Stones.

- Some of the popular activities here include scuba diving and snorkeling as there are many reefs and shipwrecks in the area, such as the wreck of the SS Sapona, which ran aground in 1926 during a hurricane.

- One may also go on a shark lab tour at the Bimini Biological Field Station Foundation. It aims to raise awareness of heavily impacted marine animals, specifically sharks and rays.

- There are plenty of places for refreshment and fine dining or to grab a drink on the go. This includes Bimini Big Game Resort & Marina, End of the World Sandbar, CJ's Deli, Sheries on the beach, Big John, etc.

- Dolphins are a huge part of the island, visitors often like to interact with the Atlantic dolphins. For an up close and personal experience one may visit groups like Wildquest or Eduardo Briones' Bimini Undersea.
