About Andros Island
Located about 25 miles from New Providence island is the island of Andros. It is the largest island in the chain of islands in the Bahamas and the fifth-largest island in the Caribbean. It is usually the first stop for tourists and hosts countless species of wildlife, marine life, flora and fauna.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Andros Island
- The island covers an area of 2,300 sq. miles with varying land and textures. It has deserted beaches and freshwater lakes in addition to an immense field of wetlands that make channels ideal for bonefishing.

- It is also the largest protected area in the Bahamas. It has 5 national parks with various species of wildlife and marine animals. These are the Blue Holes National Park, Crab Replenishment Reserve. Others are North & South Marine Parks, and the West Side National Park.

- The island looks incredible with numerous bays, inlets, lakes, cays, and channels. It also has a great number of oceans and inland blue holes, the highest concentration and the largest variety of any solid landmass in the world.

- It is also home to the 3rd largest barrier reef in the world. It runs 190 miles long, falls to 8 feet on the island side, and plunges to over 6,000 feet in the Tongue of the Ocean. There are as many as 178 blue holes on the island.

- Andros is dubbed the Bonefish Capital of the World. Andros was found/discovered in 1550 by the Spanish. It houses more than 60 known species of wild orchids cover the island. The island is also nicknamed "The Sleeping Giant' and "The Big Yard."
