An iconic luxury hotel, the Langham is an authtentic London icon. Not only is it the largest and the most famous hotel in London, it also holds an amount of historical value. It quickly became a hotspot for the rich and elite of London in the 18th century. With distinguished guests, luxury and beauty, it also comes with a bit of haunting.
Some Lesser Known Facts About The Langham
- It was built in the year 1865 and designed by John Giles. Its cost of construction is estimated to a whooping £300,000. It presented a hundred water closets, thirty-six bathrooms, and the first hydraulic lifts in England. It was inaugurated in June 1865 and the opening ceremony, performed by the Prince of Wales.

- It has been used as a location for shooting films and TV as well. It was featured in the culinary drama film Burnt, starring Bradley Cooper, the James Bond film "Golden eye", and also in "Wonderland" by Michael Winterbottom.

- It was refurbished in 2009 and the hotel today offers 380 rooms for accommodation, a new business center, 15 function rooms, and a Grand Ballroom. Some new places include the Artesian bar and the private dining room, Postillion, Roux at The Landau restaurant, The Wigmore British tavern. These new areas are designed by David Collins.

- Some of its notable guests through time have been: Oscar Wilde, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Noel Coward, Anna Neagle, Charles Laughton, Cindy Crawford, Elton John, Diana, Princess of Wales, and John Major.

- It is undoubtedly, one of the most haunted places in London as well. Staff members and guests have reported strange incidents that can only be associated with the paranormal. The most haunted room in the hotel is room 333. The legend goes that it is the site of a suicide-murder. A doctor on his honeymoon killed his wife and then himself soon after. People have claimed to see gentlemen dressed in the Victorian kind of clothing with hollow eyes.

- It is believed that Emperor Napoleon III himself is a resident at the Langham. He lived here during the last days of his exile.

- The Langham bore witness to numerous deaths and unfortunate events. Many entities are believed to have residence on the site, according to paranormal experts. A man with a ghastly gaping wound on his face can be quite a shocking sight when came upon in the hallways.

- A German Prince leaped off the 4th floor window and fell to his death. An apparition that is associated with the Prince is most active during the early hours of the day, around 5:00 am.
