Hotel Kurrajong is a four-star hotel located in Barton Act, Australia. It was opened for the public in the year 1925. The architect assigned to design this hotel John Murdoch is same who designed Australian Parliament House which is located close to this hotel. It was made for the stay of administrative and political staff. It had to change in a public hotel at the time of the Second World War. It faced a time when it was near to be closed and was abandoned in 1993, however, it was refurnished and now became a luxurious hotel and is open for the guests. It has about 147 beautiful rooms including King/Queen room, Classic Family room, Heritage room and other for the comfort of the guest.

  • Though it is now a luxurious hotel but tales of hotel being haunted by the spirit of Ben Chifley is still prevalent in the Australian culture.
  • After reading the fact, the first question that comes in mind is Who was Ben Chifley? And Why is his ghost haunting this hotel? He was a politician representing labor party. He won the seat of Macquarie in New South Wales in 1928. At the time labour party was in office and Chifley got the position of Minister of Defence. He used to spent a lot of time in this hotel. In 1940, he was appointed as a treasurer. At the time of the second World War John Curtin was the prime minister of Australia while Chifley was treasurer. When Curtin died in 1945, Chifely held the position following a ballot between Chifley and Forde. At the time he was holding the position of prime-minister, he permanently shifted to the hotel and used to got the lodge (official residence of Prime Minister) in day time to work. He died of heart attack in his hotel room in 1951. Some of the visitors witnessed a man in a grey suit roaming in hotel near windows or balcony?s pointing towards the parliament house. They claims that the man is ghost of Ben Chifley.
