About Ballygally Castle
The Ballgally Castle is situated in the village of County Antim in the northern region of Ireland. It is fashioned in the style of a Scottish baronial castle. It is known for its charming lush environment and also being a hotspot for paranormal activities.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Ballygally Castle
- Dating back to 1625, the castle was built by Lord James Shaw and his wife Lady Isabella Brisbane. It is built in the typical Scottish baronial style with high ceilings and a steeping roof. The castle was passed down from father to son for years, until it fell into the hands Of William Shaw, the last esquire of Ballygally who then sold the estate.

- The building standing today has gone through some renovations though a large part of the original structure still remains. The estate has been extended into a modern hotel and lounge. Originally, the castle was used as a refuge during the Civil wars for the Protestants. Today, it attracts vacationers for its beautiful surroundings as well as its reputation for being haunted.
- The legend goes that Lady Isabella gave birth to a daughter, which resulted in outrage from Lord James Shaw, as a male heir would?ve ensured the security of the estate. It is said that the Lady was locked away in the castle tower as her child was taken away from her. In desperation, Lady Isabella opened the tower window and jumped. Some may say that she was pushed off the tower. Nevertheless, she met her tragic death by falling of the tower.

- The tower today still stands, and the room-turned-prison is preserved in its state. But the ghost of Lady Isabella still lurks the estate. Knocking on doors, and wandering through the hallways.

- The room is open to visitors who may like a tour of the old estate. People who have visited there say a chilling sensation is felt in the room. Maybe it?s the eerily quiet state or the lonely stairwell leading up to the room. A sense of discomfort is what keeps most people away from the sight.
