Gonjiam Psychiatric Hospital is a now-closed hospital situated in Gwangju-si city of Seoul, South Korea. It is one of three popular haunted places in South Korea. The hospital closed its door in 1995. According to some records, patients, and staff started dying in the hospital due to some infection. The infection also killed some family members of the patients. Some people claim that the doctors were also mentally disturbed in the hospital, which is the reason of large number of deaths. It is also said that the dead bodies were hidden in the rooms, causing the great infection. According to some records, the owner escaped to America after shifting the patients to another hospital.

- It is said that the director of the hospital was abandoned after killing a number of patients in the hospital. It is still a mystery where he has gone and why he killed them. The appearance of the building like broken windows, and rusty doors makes it more spooky and grabs the attention of ghost hunters to know the truth behind the walls.
- Also, a film is made taking in view the stories relating to the building. The film was named “Gonjiam Haunted Asylum” which was released in 2018 and was the third most-watched horror film in South Korea.
- Some local people claim that they heard shrieks and wails from the building. Some people say that they saw bloodstains on the window and a dark shadow coming out of the building.
- The hospital is reportedly haunted, especially room number 222 is said to filled with paranormal activities.
