About Wieliczka Salt Mine
Wieliczka Salt Mine is a salt-producing site that belongs to the medieval age. The site is located in Wieliczka town situated in the South of Poland. It covers an area of 970 hectares. It was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978. It was operated by the Żupy Krakowskie company from the 13th century to the day it ceased operation. It remained on the list of World Heritage Site in Danger from 1989 to 1998.

- It is the oldest salt mining company and was in use until 1996.
- The visitors can see the shaft and labyrinthine passageways, an underground lake. They can also know about the salt-mining technology used in older times. There are also four chapels and beautiful statues like the statue of Saint Barbara and a scene of The Last Supper carved out of rock salt which also attracts the attention of the visitors.
- The site is visited by many popular personalities like Pope John Paul, Jacob Bronowski, U.S. President Bill Clinton, Nicolaus Copernicus, and many more. Besides that, the site is visited by over a million people every year.
