Wieliczka Salt Mine is a salt-producing site that belongs to the medieval age. The site is located in Wieliczka town situated in the South of Poland. It covers an area of 970 hectares. It was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978. It was operated by the Żupy Krakowskie company from the 13th century to the day it ceased operation. It remained on the list of World Heritage Site in Danger from 1989 to 1998.
