About Humayun Tomb
As the name suggests it is the tomb of the Mughal Emperor Humayun. The tomb was constructed after the death of Humayun in 1569-70. It is a Mughal architectural monuments designed by Mirak Mirza Ghiyas and his son, Sayyid Muhammad.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Humayun Tomb
- There is not only Humayun's grave in the complex as there are also other rulers' graves including his two wives, Dara Shikoh, in the complex.
- It was the first garden-tomb in India. The place is also noted as it was built by a wife in the memory of her husband. For the purpose, she called Persian architect Mirak Mirza Ghiyath who design the masterpiece and the rest is history.
- Before this building, there was no such building having kiosks on such a huge scale.

- It was designed with eight side chambers which is a symbol of paradise according to the Islamic believe.
- The designer introduced new style with a combination of white marble and red sandstone.
- It was designated as the World Heritage Site in the year 1993.
- It is an inspiration behind the construction of the most popular monument Taj Mahal which was made about a hundred years after the construction of Humayun's Tomb.
- It was made at the time with a cost of 15 lakh rupees which means over 1.5 million now.
