About Aram Bagh, Agra

Aram Bagh is an old botanical garden located in the city of Agra, Uttar Pradesh in India. It was created in 1528 on an order of Mughal Emperor Babur. It is a beautiful garden and must be visited during a visit to Agra. The garden could be visited between 6:00 am to 6:30 pm any day of the week. A small amount of fee which is Rupees 15 per person is required for an Indian to enter to admire the beauty of this garden. While if you are a foreign national then you have to pay 200 INR for a visit.

How To Reach Aram Bagh, Agra

The garden is located just five kilometers away from the popular tourist destination Taj Mahal and is well connected with public transport.
Bus
If you are going there by bus then you have to leave your bus at the Agra bus stand or at the Ram Bagh bus stand. WaterWorks Crossing is also located nearby. You can reach the park by a small walk or can hire a rickshaw which will leave you at the gate of the park.
Train
Going there by train is also a good option. Some of the nearby train stations are Agra Cantt, Agra City station, Raja Ki Mandi, Agra Fort, Tundla Junction, and Pathauli. Various public transport options like rickshaw, auto-rickshaw, and taxi are available which will leave you at the required destination.

Some Lesser Known Facts About Aram Bagh, Agra

An important fact about the garden, you must know is that Babur was interred here in the garden for a brief period. Later on, his grave was shifted to Kabul.
There are several stories related to the garden one of which was of Emperor Akbar and his third wife. It is said that the emperor proposed to her in this garden and remained in the garden for six days until she said "Yes."
One more legend related to the garden was that Jahangir spent his time in this garden after gaining victory over Fort of Kangra in March 1621. He was waiting for the best time according to astrological prediction to enter the city.
Jahangir's wife Nur Jahan was a skilled garden designer and she showed her talent in this place.
The garden has several watercourses and fountains where you can feel a cool breeze. It provides a relaxing feel as the city receives hot summers between March to September.
There is also confusion relating to its name. Its name was Aram Bagh but was changed to Ram Bagh under Maratha reign. So don't get confused, it is the same and the same thing.
The park was made close to the Yamuna river so that the water from the river could be used through canals and the water supply in the garden remains uninterrupted. There were also hammams (bath) at the time of the Mughal empire which is now closed for the public.
As the garden is located close to the Yamuna river, you can enjoy the panoramic view of the river from the garden. Chatt Ghat is also located nearby you can have a look at the celebration if you are visiting the city at the time of Diwali and other festivals.
