About National Gallery of Modern Art
It is an art gallery situated at Rajpath, New Delhi. It was founded by the Government of India in March 1954. It is one of largest modern art museums all round the world.
Some Lesser Known Facts About National Gallery of Modern Art
- Very few of us know that the gallery was opened by Franklin W. Smith much earlier than the government of India opened the main museum. Its door was open in March 1941 which was inspired by the things he saw with his world travels including museums in European capitals.
- One more interesting fact about the gallery that it was started for the tax evasion. Andrew Mellon and Franklin D. Roosevelt who actively worked for its foundation were not good friends.
- If you are an Indian than you have to pay only twenty Rupees to enter the Gallery while for the foreign national entrance fees is 500 INR.
- It opens at ten in the morning and remain till five in the evening except on Monday and Public holiday.
- The place is twenty kilometers away from Indira Gandhi International Airport and its up to you that you can take a cab to arrive the place or by taking a bus. Delhi metro is also an option and the last metro station to reach the gallary is Central Secretariat.
- You will be amazed to know the fact that the founder and the architect of the Gallery died within a day. Although there was an age difference of twenty years between both of them.
