About Valley of the Kings
Valley of the Kings was a burial ground for kings in ancient Egypt. It was in use for a period of 500 years from the 16th to 11th century BC. It is situated on the bank of the river Nile and is divided into two parts the East Valley and the West Valley. About 64 tombs and chambers are discovered till 2005. You can see paintings of Egyptian mythology on the tomb. It is sad to say that almost all of the tombs are robbed. The place is declared as the World Heritage Site and gaining the attention of archaeologists and Egyptologists since the eighteenth century.

Some Lesser Known Facts About Valley of the Kings

  • The tomb of Tutankhamun which is popular for the curse of the pharaohs is also situated here. The mummy of King Tutankhamun was discovered in 1922. The burial chamber of the king was opened in February 1923 which was filled with fabulous riches. The mummy is also popular for the curse but it is only half true. Many of the shows and even a Hollywood movie gaining attention and stated that all the people who open the tomb died. But the real fact is that Howard Carter who discovered the tomb must be the prime target of the curse but he lived up to 1939. Only 6 of the 26 persons who opened the tomb died in a decennary. Lord Carnarvon died of blood poisoning not because of the curse.
