It is the oldest burial ground situated in Birmingham, Alabama in the United States. It spans an area of approximately 21.5 acres. It was formally established in late 1873. The cemetery office is open from 8 AM to 3 PM on Monday to Friday.

- Over 10,000 graves in the cemetery belong before 1930. The founders of Birmingham city also buried there.
- It was added as a historic place in the National Register of historic sites in 1977.

- It is the final resting place of numerous prominent folks and military personnel including Robert Henley, Edmund Rucker, and many more.

- In 1883, the city directory defined the price as 3 cents/sq ft of burial lots. There wasn't necessary to make the advance payment. But in the case, the payment didn't make in the 60 days after death then the body will be exhumed and buried in the pauper graveyard.
