About Chase Vault
Chase Vault is a graveyard located in Christ Church, Barbados. It is an old cemetery created before the 1800s. The cemetery is known for the mysterious moving coffins though there is no proof of such stories. The story was also covered by James Edward Alexander's Transatlantic Sketches in 1833.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Chase Vault
- According to the claims, it is the grave of the Chase family. Mrs. Goddard who died in 1807 was buried first at the place. After that, her two years old daughter Ann Maria Chase in 1808 and in 1812 twelve years old daughter Dorcas Chase followed by their father Thomas Chase. But each time when the vault was open the caskets of the daughters were found in different positions which they are placed earlier. Even at the time of other burials in 1816 and 1816, all the four coffins were found in a disturbing place. Though the door of the vault is made of heavy stone and requires six or seven men to move. Also, there are no footsteps or water and the floor of the vault is of sand. There is a big mystery who does this or the spirit of the chase family themselves change their positions. (who knows!)
