About Blocton Italian Catholic Cemetery
It is a historic burial grounds located in West Blocton, Alabama in the United States. The cemetery was founded in 1896 and used until 1970. The foundation of the place was accredited to the group of Italian Catholic people who worked in the coal mines in the area.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Blocton Italian Catholic Cemetery
- There are around 86 funerary monuments that displayed more than a hundred Italian family names at the burial grounds.

- It designated as a historic place and also added to the NRHP in April 1999.
- Hundreds of immigrant Italians established the cemetery in the late 19th century. They worked in the coal mines and their community often called Little Italy. They also originated St. Francis of Assisi Church before the cemetery.
- There were photographs of the deceased displayed on headstones. The photographs were placed in the defensive glass coverings regrettably, those photos removed by either descendants' family or hooligans.

- Some gravestones in the cemetery hold the words "morto nella mina" which means "died in the mines".
