About Muiden Castle

Muiden Castle as the name suggests is a castle situated in Muiden of Netherlands. It is just 15 kilometers in Southeast direction from the capital city Amsterdam. The castle is located in the end of the Vecht River where it meet with Zuiderzee. The castle was built by Albrecht, Duke of Bavaria. You can take a tram line 26 from the Central Station to arrive at the castle. You can get tickets to enter the castle at 15.50 Euro both online or offline.

Some Lesser Known Facts About Muiden Castle

The castle is featured in various television shows where they have to show the middle Ages.
It was a small castle made by Count Floris V in 1280. Count Floris was killed by Gerard van Velsen in 1296 and the castle was taken over by Willem van Mechelen, the Archbishop of Utrecht. It was demolished in 1300 and was rebuilt in 1370.
It served as a meeting point for several scholars, poets, and painters like P.C. Hooft, Vondel, Maria Tesselschade. Their group was named the Muiderkring. P.C.Hooft lived in this castle for 39 years in the 16th century. His belonging could still be seen in the castle.
The castle was used as a prison in the 18th century.
The interior of the castle is kept safe as if they were in the 17th century. It includes the collection of arms and armor.
